PDO THREADLIFT

MINIMALLY INVASIVE FACELIFT ALTERNATIVE

At MD Skin Lab in Honolulu, Dr. Tan often pairs anti-aging PDO threadlift with additional skin tightening and collagen-boosting treatments to subtly lift sagging skin on the face and neck, treat acne scars, and volumize lips.

How PDO Threadlift Works

A more youthful appearance starts with face, but not everyone is a candidate or has the downtime or desire for a surgical facelift of neck lift.  PDO threadlift can be an excellent alternative to cosmetic surgery for patients who want to tighten the cheeks, lower face, jowls, and neck area  A thread lift is a nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure that passes threads beneath the surface of your skin to lift the tissue. The threads may have tiny barbs or cones that help grip the skin. When appropriately positioned, they give your face a more lifted, toned appearance, especially around the lower face and jowls.

As the threads are absorbed over the first six months, they also trigger a boost in your natural collagen production and you will notice a subtle improvement in your skin quality and texture.

Dr. Tan performs this remarkable treatment to subtly lift sagging skin on the face and neck, treat acne scars, and volumize lips.  At MD Skin Lab, PDO threadlift is often paired with additional skin tightening and collagen-boosting treatments to deliver beautiful, natural-looking results.  Areas commonly treated:

Forehead | Brow | Cheek | Jawline | Neck and Decolletage | Acne Scars | Lip Enhancement

Candidate For Threadlift Treatment

The ideal Thread Lift candidate wants to avoid a surgical procedure but wishes to correct drooping facial tissue. Best for patients between 30-50 years of age with mild skin laxity, this procedure is ideal for patients who are not quite ready for a surgical face lift.

Patients over the age of 50 or with significant skin sagging and/or thin skin may not be ideal candidates for a PDO thread lifting procedure, and may benefit more from a facelift.

Selecting A Facial Plastic Surgeon For Your Treatment

Dr. Tan is meticulous and thorough when formulating your unique PDO threadlift treatment plan.  She will carefully assess your skin type, facial structure, and cosmetic concerns to create the optimal treatment design to achieve your desired outcome.

Because the results can be subtle, Dr. Tan pair thread lifts with other collagen-boosting treatments, such as Sculptra Aesthetics.  The threadlift provide the structure, and Sculptra Aesthetics will help to restore volume loss.

It is here that Dr. Tan’s skill and artistry are critical to obtaining greater results.  In the hands of an expert, PDO threads can be strategically placed to create subdermal ‘scaffolding’ and ‘lifting’ in such a way that they don’t pinch or overlap, and she uses just the right number of threads to achieve a natural look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Preparing for your treatment

The whole thread lift procedure usually takes less than an hour. Dr. Tan will start by photo documentation, and marking on your skin where the threads will go. Then she inject those areas with local anesthetic. Once you’re numb, your doctor will insert a long needle, or cannula, with the thread attached to it, into your skin and pass it under the skin’s surface. The thread is then pulled taut in order to create tension and lift the tissue. This process is repeated until all the threads—anywhere from just a few to more than 20—are placed.  The lifting results are immediate: while partially due to temporary swelling and local anesthesia, real results will be visible in about a month, and peak around three months.

Because the procedure is done under local anesthesia, you should feel comfortable driving yourself home when it’s done. It is recommended that patients anticipate up to two weeks for thread entry points to heal and for bruising and swelling to subside. The threads will dissolve beneath the skin entirely within a few months.

Recovery and results

You may go home with bunched up or dimpled skin, but that should be mild and resolve within a week. You should not see or easily feel the threads, if they’re placed in the proper position.  You may feel some resistance when moving your face or have a sense of fullness where the threads were placed.  Beyond that, thread lift recovery is relatively easy. The recovery is similar to getting injectable fillers. You might have mild swelling and bruising for up to two weeks.

Any side effects?

Thread lifts are low risk, thanks to how noninvasive they are. There is virtually no risk of scarring, severe bruising, bleeding or other complications after having a thread lift. In rare cases, patients may experience irritation, infection or their sutures becoming visible under their skin. If this occurs, however, the sutures can simply be removed and the patient’s face will return to its prior state.
