To attain board certification from the ABFPRS, the surgeon must first have completed a five year surgical training in either Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery or Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, followed by an invitation to complete additional fellowship training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Upon completion, the surgeon must complete a two day examination to demonstrate their base of knowledge and professional skill. Annually, the surgeon must meet all the requirements under ABFPRS to remain certified including completion of required number of reconstructive or cosmetic surgical procedures, required number of Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours, completion of the recertification application, and demonstrate commitment to ongoing education and training. It is this rigorous certification standards prove that ABFPRS Diplomates like Dr. Tan, are capable of delivering the best patient care possible.
